Calcio Storico

Also known as Calcio Fiorentino is played once per year at the Piazza Santa Croce in Florence. The game originated during the middle ages and became famous in 1530, when the city was under siege, but the people of Florence kept playing their game and ignoring the troops outside the city walls.

In 1574, the King of France said about the game:

"Too small to be a real war and too cruel to be a game."
